The team
We have four trustees, a number of members of advisory groups and two team members.
The Trustees in South Africa are:
Francois Bonnici
Francois is the former Head of Africa and Middle East at the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and a Global Leadership Fellow of the World Economic Forum. Trained as a physician in South Africa, he read for a Masters degree in Public Health (London) and a MBA (Oxford) as a Rhodes Scholar. He has worked in clinical paediatrics, managed child public health programmes, worked as a consultant to UNICEF, country governments, for-profit companies and as a researcher in the Clinical Trial Unit at Oxford University. He also sits on the Board of Powerfree Education and Technology, a non-profit enterprise developing medical devices appropriate for resource poor settings. His most recent position was as the Associate Director of the World Economic Forum’s Global Health Initiative.
Heather Brandon – Founder
Having spent more than three decades working as a Chief Executive of four not-for-profit organisations spanning two continents, Heather brings significant experience and knowledge of the education of young people, the development and management of community projects, direction setting and evaluation of international grant making programmes and different governance models of not-for-profit organisations. Heather has chaired the Board of Womankind Worldwide, The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and has served as a member of The Fostering Network Board, The Big Lottery and The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Following a light bulb moment in India she became determined to set up UnLtd South Africa to encourage the development of social entrepreneurs to deliver social change and to ensure sustainability of the projects and less reliance on the uncertain income of grants and international aid. Heather graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Arts degree and holds a postgraduate diploma in Executive Coaching from the University of Strathclyde.
Michelle Norton
Michelle is a practising advocate and member of the Cape Bar. She obtained BA and LLB degrees from the University of Natal (Durban), South Africa and the degree of D Phil from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, where she studied as a Rhodes Scholar. She has served as the National Vice-President and Western Cape Chairperson of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers and has worked in the areas of legal education, legal research and socio-legal publications.
Kathy Watters – Co Founder
Kathy Watters co-founded UnLtd South Africa. She has an MPhil degree in adult education from the University of Cape Town and has spent the last twenty years working as an independent evaluator. Her recent clients have included University of Western Cape, Zenex Foundation, Centre for the Book, Human Science Research Council and the South African Broadcasting Corporation. In 1984 she helped to start a small laminating business called The Plastic Sandwich. The business is in Wale Street in Cape Town and employs 10 people. She is still a partner in the business.

The South African team consists of:
Louise Willington - CEO
Louise has 15 years experience in the private, public and not for profit sectors. She worked for the global retailer Tesco for 6 years, developing and delivering change programmes across stores, distribution and commercial functions, most recently looking at their supply chain to reduce carbon emissions by 30%. Prior to Tesco, she was in the Enterprise Team at the UK Government Treasury. Louise has an MBA from Harvard Business School and spent a few years with LEK Consulting, a strategy consulting firm. While in Boston in the US she worked with the venture philanthropy fund New Profit for a few months. She was a Trustee of UnLtd UK for 4 years.
Tom Shutte - Programme Director
Tom Shutte comes to UnLtd South Africa from UnLtd in the UK where he worked for 6 years, initially as a Development Manager and then as Business Operations Manager. He has extensive experience of selecting, developing and supporting Social Entrepreneurs in the UK and has set up and managed targeted grants programmes. During his time as a Development Manager with the London awards team he worked with over 150 Social Entrepreneurs at all stages of development from ideas generation to investment readiness. He has a Bachelors of Social Science from UCT and is a qualified Psychosynthesis counsellor (UK).
